I was driving on right lane on southbound Deerfoot Trail at around 32 Avenue. This white minivan with Siemens branding was travelling on the lane to the left. We were pretty much side-by-side with me maybe a hood length behind, when the driver decided to turn into my lane and occupy the same space that my car is. I had to swerve right into the shoulder and braked very hard to avoid a crash with the Siemens van, but the swerving and hard braking had unsettled my car that it skidded for a little while. It must have been a great show for the semi-trailer driver about 50m back. Once I got going, I followed the van and it turns out that he didn't need to be in the right lane anyway because he is not turning off at 16 Avenue (that lane ends shortly after the 16 Avenue turnoff). I am amazed everyday at the stupidity of drivers in this city.
